The music program at Coopersville Area Public Schools prides itself in offering students (K-12) the best of a culmination of traditional and progressive modes of music making. We believe that music as a unique human endeavor is fundamental to the complete person. Music students at Coopersville learn how to sing and perform music on instruments at a mastery level. Success in this area has been validated by a history of superior festival performance ratings. We believe that mastery in the area of musical performance is one of a number of factors that leads to a lifetime love of music. Another essential piece of this puzzle is in the area of original music creation. Students at Coopersville are given opportunities to create their own music from an early age. Coopersville students have been recognized at the state level for their original music compositions.

1st Annual CHS Composition Concert - 2006
Coopersville High School Band members performed in a concert highlighting their own original music creations. The concert featured twin sisters performing a piece for dueling pianos that they wrote together, a drum cadence written by members of the Bronco drumline, a rock band performing its piece thoughtfully titled “ADD”, and a piece for small wind ensemble presented both orally and visually on a giant screen placed on center stage. This concert was one of the first of its kind in the State of Michigan. The concert finale was an improvisation performed by all of the composers in real time. The piece, titled “Friday Night Improvisation in F,” was divided into three sections. A student group led each section with a riff in the key of F as the other members of the group improvised music to accompany that riff. This concert is one of the ways in which the music faculty of Coopersville Area Public Schools are seeking to encourage students' original music creation.
