McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

At Coopersville Area Public Schools, we’re committed to supporting students and families during times of housing instability by helping maintain consistency and connection to school.

The McKinney-Vento Act is a federal law that provides educational support to children and youth who do not have a stable place to live. A student may qualify for support if they are:

  • Staying with friends or relatives because they lost housing or can’t afford their own

  • Living in a motel, hotel, or campground because there are no other safe options

  • Staying in a shelter or have been left at a hospital

  • Sleeping in a place not meant for people to live in—like a car, park, abandoned building, or bus/train station

  • Living in housing that’s not safe or is falling apart

  • Part of a migratory family (such as farm workers) and living in any of the above situations

If your living situation has changed and you’re not sure if you qualify, please contact us. We’re here to help.
