At West Early Childhood Center (WECC), our days are built around routines that help children feel safe, connected, and excited to learn. This page gives you a clear picture of what daily life looks like at WECC, so you know what to expect, what you’ll need, and where to find support every step of the way.
Drop-Off, Pick-Up & Transportation
At WECC, safety and consistency matter. The sections below outline how arrival and dismissal work for Preschool, Young Fives, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade students.
Preschool Drop-Off & Pick Up
Preschool Daily Schedule
- Arrival: 8:45 a.m.
- Full-Day Preschool Dismissal: 3:25 p.m.
- Half-Day 3-Year-Old Preschool Dismissal: 12:30 p.m.
Preschool Morning Drop-Off
- Parents must stay with their child until they enter the building.
- 3 and 4-Year-Old Preschool enters at Door E.
Preschool Afternoon Pick-Up
- Pickup occurs at the same location as morning drop-off.
- A parent or guardian must be present at pickup.
- Preschool students are not escorted to vehicles.
(Y5/K/1st) Drop-Off & Pick-Up
Daily Schedule (Y5/K/1st)
- School Hours: 8:45 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.
- Students enter the building at 8:45 a.m.
Morning Drop-Off
- Drop-off runs from 8:30–8:45 a.m.
- Use the North Parking Lot (near the playground).
- Pull forward and have your child exit on the passenger side.
- Arrivals after 8:45 a.m. must be signed in at the office.
- Students may not be dropped off before 8:30 a.m.
Afternoon Pick-Up
- Pickup takes place in the front parking lot.
- Siblings meet at the flagpole between East & West for family pickup.
- Students are released one at a time to a known adult.
- Photo ID may be required.
Transportation
BusRight App
- Families are encouraged to use the BusRight App for real-time bus updates.
- The app provides arrival notifications, route adjustments, and important transportation alerts.
Transportation Expectations (YK–1st)
- All changes to after-school transportation must be communicated directly to the WECC office.
- Students must follow bus safety expectations at all times.
- Parents/guardians should ensure their child knows their bus number and stop location.
Please note: Transportation is not provided for preschool students.

- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Persistent cough
- Major cold or flu symptoms
- Severe sore throat
- Headache, fatigue, or body aches
Return-to-School Guidelines
Return-to-School Guidelines
- Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.
- Vomiting and diarrhea must be resolved for 24 hours.
- Overall symptoms should be improving before returning to school.

Medications at School
- A Medication Administration Form is required for any prescription or over-the-counter medication.
- The form must be signed by a physician.
- Medication must be brought to the office by a parent or guardian—students may not transport medications.
- All medication must be in its original container with the child’s name clearly labeled.
Allergies & Health Plans

- Please inform the WECC office and your child’s teacher of any allergies or medical conditions.
- Health Care Plans (including allergy, asthma, or seizure plans) must be updated annually.
- Epinephrine, inhalers, or other emergency medications require a physician-completed plan on file.
Illness During the School Day
If Your Child Becomes sick at School
- Parents/guardians will be contacted if a child is ill or unable to participate in learning.
- Students displaying fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or concerning symptoms must be picked up promptly.
- Please ensure emergency contact information in Infinite Campus is up-to-date.
Breakfast & Lunch Meals

Preschool Breakfast
Preschool Breakfast is served after morning drop-off.
- Preschool students eat breakfast in their classroom once they have settled in for the day.
- Meals follow the Early Childhood/Great Start Menu, which differs from the Y5–1st Grade menu.
YK, Kindergarten & 1st Grade Breakfast
Breakfast Time: 8:30–8:45 a.m.
- Drop-off for breakfast takes place at the old office entrance by the flagpole, which leads directly to the cafeteria.
- Bus riders who need breakfast are guided straight to the cafeteria when they arrive.
- Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. if your child plans to eat breakfast at school.
Lunch
Preschool Lunch
Preschool Lunch is served daily in the classroom environment.
- Preschool students receive meals from the Early Childhood (P3–P4/GSRP) lunch menu.
- Menus may differ from Young 5s, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade options.
- Please notify the WECC office and your child’s teacher if your child has food allergies or dietary restrictions.
YK, Kindergarten & 1st Grade Lunch
Lunch is available daily through the district’s elementary food service program.
- Students choose from daily entrée options, fruits, vegetables, and sides.
- All allergy or dietary needs should be shared with both the WECC office and your child’s teacher.
- Families can manage meal accounts through the district’s food service system.
Recess & Weather
Recess
- Students go outside for recess every day, weather permitting.
- Please send your child dressed for the weather, including coats, hats, and gloves in cold months.
- In snowy weather, students need boots and snow pants to play in the snow.
- Indoor recess is held only during unsafe conditions (severe weather, extreme cold, lightning, etc.).
- We encourage families to keep an extra set of clothes at school in case of wet or messy play.
Weather-Related Closings & Delays
- Weather-related school closings and delays are determined by the district and communicated directly to families.
- Families will receive notifications through Infinite Campus, district email, and local media outlets.
- Please make sure your contact information in the Parent Portal is up-to-date so you receive alerts promptly.
- Updates are also posted on the district website and on the official Coopersville Area Public Schools Facebook page.
What To Bring
Backpacks
- Students should bring a backpack large enough to carry folders, lunch items, and winter gear.
- Please avoid rolling backpacks, as they do not fit well in classroom spaces.
- Label your child’s backpack with their first and last name.
Extra Clothes
- Please send a complete extra set of clothing in a labeled bag (shirt, pants, underwear, socks).
- Clothing should be replaced seasonally or as needed.
- Extra clothes are important for spills, outdoor play, and bathroom accidents.
Water Bottles
- Students are encouraged to bring a labeled water bottle each day.
- Water bottles should be spill-proof and easy for your child to open independently.
- Please send only water—no juice or soda.
Seasonal Gear
- Please send appropriate outdoor clothing based on the weather.
- Cold weather: coats, hats, gloves or mittens.
- Snowy weather: snow pants and boots are required for playing in the snow.
- Warm weather: sunscreen should be applied at home before school.
- If your family needs assistance with seasonal gear, local support is available through community organizations.
