Senior Emma Timmerman earned first place at the Congressional Art Competition, with her work selected as the grand prize winner. Her piece will be displayed for the next year at the U.S. Capitol, representing Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District.

The event drew one of its largest turnouts in years, making the recognition even more competitive—and more meaningful.

CHS students made a strong impression throughout the evening. Senior Lucas Potter also stood out, receiving an offer from one of the judges to purchase his artwork. He also had the opportunity to discuss his future plans, including pursuing a degree in political science and upcoming internships.

Additional CHS students selected to have their work displayed at the Congressional Art Competition included Addison Banka (11th grade), Kenadi Stevens (11th grade), and Naveah Looks (12th grade.

Emma’s achievement is especially unique. The same piece was selected earlier this year for a Michigan Department of Education student art show and will also be on display in Lansing for the next year—meaning her work will be featured at both the state and national level.

A remarkable honor for Emma and a proud showing from CHS students on a highly competitive stage.
